ER--not the TV show

In the midst of the craziness of a home renovation with a toddler in tow...
We had the excitement of our first ER visit with the peanut!  One Sunday after church, we came home & I ran to the bathroom.  Within seconds, I heard screaming from downstairs and came down to see Ellen with blood everywhere!  My first thought was that she had done something to Guinness and she had bitten her.  But after checking her out, it turned out she had been coming down the stairs with a plastic tube in her mouth and fell.  The stick had jabbed into the roof of her mouth--hence all the blood!

I called JP--luckily he was on his way back to the house since I needed moral support--and we called the doctor.  We were already at the doctor's office by the time they called us back.  Dr. Brady took a look at her and suggested we go to the ER to make sure it wasn't too deep.  So off to Vandy!

We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon/evening there.  Ellen did great--she was super quiet because she wouldn't swallow so she mostly laid in the bed with a mouthful of saliva.  They were really nice at Vandy--volunteers came by and brought movies to watch, it was quiet, we had our own room, etc.  They decided to do a catscan to be sure she hadn't bruised her carotid artery.  The happy medicine they gave her kicked in and JP said she did great during the scan (I wasn't allowed in because I was pregnant).  So, after quite a few hours, we were released to go home and eat lots of popsicles!

She was pretty much back to normal by the next day!  Glad we can check that parenting milestone off and hope we don't have to go there again any time soon!

(Oh & the worst part of it all--this all went down on SuperBowl Sunday while the Giants were playing.  While we had a tv in the ER room, no regular TV channels work.  When we finally left and got in the car, I did get to hear the last minute of the game.  At least they won!!!)
